What’s New…
First time voting for our students
After the announcement of the snapΒ General Election, our students have been working to equip them with the skills and knowledge to be able to make decisions related to voting.
In college they have learnt about what parliament is and how the voting process works, and practiced this by taking a democraticΒ voteΒ with staff and their peers to choose events related to their studies, such as the theme of the end-of-year prom.
Students have met with local constituency candidates for Q&A sessions and prepared questions based on being enabled to understand accessible-format party manifestos.
Students have engaged with care and education staff to be able to be registered to vote and to have the correct voter ID in place.
Newcastle Event 2024
Preparing For Adulthood Event – Newcastle…
We had an incredible 2 days in Newcastle for our second Preparing for Adulthood event of the year.
We want to say a huge thank you to all of our fantastic attendees, to Jill Bradshaw and Geoff Evans for delivering such insightful talks, and last but not least, our amazing students and their support team!
NATSPEC’s CEO visits us…
We were thrilled to have Clare Howard, CEO of NATSPEC visit us at Mercury College last half term. Whilst here she enjoyed lunch with us in CafΓ© Juno and really enjoyed her visit. We got some really positive feedback from her about Mercury College which we were extremely happy to receive and look forward to continue in building our relationship and work closely with NATSPEC.
We are also looking forward to the upcoming NATSPEC conference in June too, a couple of our team members will be attending to benefit from the support and networking opportunities that NATSPEC offers to specialist colleges nationally.
Prom 2023
Our first college prom…
In August 2023 our students helped plan and take part in their very first Mercury College Prom. This was a very prestigious event where all students past and present joined together to share their success stories and achievements. The students arrived in Limousines and party buses after being pampered by hairdressers and beauticians to ensure that they each arrived in style. The evening included a student awards ceremony along with a delicious meal for all. The students then went on to dance the rest of the night away in celebration. This event will no doubt become a prominent highlight of every year going forward for all at Mercury College.
